10 weeks - no vomiting at all

Well, I can hardly believe that I have only felt a little queasy two or three times, and not for about four weeks. So all is well and good. The end of week 10 was yesterday and as each week proceeds it feels more exciting and more like this is really going to happen. I don't have the huge sense of frustration that I had at week 6-7 when I just wanted to know that everything was going to be OK, and not to have to wait until the scan. I feel more relaxed and confident that things will be fine.

It's three week to go until the scan. This will be great, firstly to see the feotus for the first time, but also to check the basic elements of the feotus are there, along with the Down's probability estimate. All being well, it will be a huge relief to be able to tell work and other friends.

I told James last week as well as Liz. Both not hugely surprised, but I suppose they were not expecting it so soon after our wedding. Nick told Janet at the weekend, who had a similar response, but is obviously more excited than most.

Last weekend in New York was fun with Kate, Matt and Jordan. I was a little worried about things with a long flight, the time difference and the normal New York pursuit of cocktails and bars, but actually it all went very well. I was tired, but probably would have been anyway. The soberness perhaps did not help in the gay piano bar and the very sensible party on Saturday night, but I had a great time and it was brilliant to have done this trip as who knows when that kind of trip can happen again.

The weekend just gone was superb - organised by Nick - down in Sussex. A real break from London. A fun day in Hastings - crazy golf, funicular railways, museum, fish and chips, seaside in th bracing wind. Then a 13 mile walk from Crowhurst to Battle through lovely Sussex countryside and the morning pottering round Battle Abey. Lovely hotels and great food that I am not sure we managed to walk off in the 13 miles!

Not sure whether I am just fat from milk consumption or whether I am starting to show, but I have a fat belly. The books say you shouldn't show for 2-3 more weeks if not more, so I have no idea what is going on. One thing is for sure - this feeling fat business is not comfortable.

I have lower back pain which got very bad after the walk on Sunday, but is present most the time in a slight form. Not as bloated or constipated as a few weeks ago. Feeling hungry, but what is new.

8 weeks - so far so good

Sometimes I feel that it is all going so easily that something must be wrong. I do not feel sick - bar a very few times. I am more tired than usual but not crushingly so. There is the odd twinge in the lower abdomen which I was worried about, but from internet research it may just be slightly stretched ligaments as a result of the bigger uterus. It affects me when I stand up after sitting. To avoid it I need to get out of a chair in a slightly odd way - bent over forwards a little, and rising very slowly, which must look a little odd at work.

Other noticeable minor ailments are big bloated stomach. This may be due to drinking lots of milk, but can also be attributable to pregnancy. Very uncomfortable at times and very gaseous. The constipation seems to have been relieved now - these are some of the issues no one ever tells you about.

Have not had any funny food fads yet - although the idea of eating chicken does not seem so good at the moment.

Off to New York at the weekend, so hoping I survive that without exhaustion. Will tell Kate and probably Matt about pregnancy as well - it'll be obvious with no drinking anyway, and I actually would like to tell a couple of people anyway - just to have someone else besides Nick and my parents to chat to.

Had to go and buy 4 new bras yesterday as am now B rather than A. Much more comfy, although am hoping they stay this size for a while. I already think they look unsubtley bigger, and I keep seeing them out of the corner of my eye which is odd.

First scan - the nuchal scan is booked for 19th June to check for probability of Down's syndrome etc. Will be good to finally see something and to check if everything is OK as all this waiting and uncertainty is very frustrating.

Not missing alcohol yet - will have a drink after the scan to celebrate birthday and hopefully a good scan!

7 weeks in

I should have started this before, but forgot about the whole blogging business until now. Well, as the title suggests I am 7 weeks into my first preganancy. So far I am feeling very lucky that we managed to conceive the very first month we tried - which was also our honeymoon. Having been on the pill for many years, I was not sure how fertile I would be and how easy it would be to conceive.

So after the initial tests - which were very exciting - I did the first one by myself, and the second when Nick was there - the excitement has abated somewhat. This is partly due to the fact that 9 months seems to stretch into the far distance and partly due to the risks of miscarriage in the first trimester. Also there is the nuchal scan to go through, which will check the probability of Down's syndrome being present. So I think it is best to keep our feet on the ground until at least 13 weeks, then we can tell people and start to think about the big changes ahead.

Healthwise I feel pretty good really. I keep reading about is nausea and tiredness etc which then obviously makes you worried that you aren't suffering enough. I have felt nauseous a few times, but fairly mildly - like a small case of sea-sickness. The worst day was last Tuesday when I found it impossible to concentrate in meetings.

I have felt more tired than usual, but it's not too bad. The main thing I have noticed is having been drinking lots of milk every day, I am putting on waist weight for Britain. I am going to cut down to half a pint per day and think that this along with the other sources of calcium will be enough for now. The foetus is only baked bean size!

I am running 3 times a week - but only 3-4 miles a go. Nothing too fast and it is only for fitness not to improve pace, but it feels good to get out, especially now it's warming up.

Have told my parents only so far and we did this because I didn't want to lie to them about not drinking alcohol on my Mum's 60th birthday.

Anyway - must go - bked potatoes in the oven are driving m insane by smelling soooo good.
